First Transit is looking for Schedulers to review, revise, and produce final driver manifests for next day door-to-door ADA transportation service. Job Purpose 

Under general direction, the Scheduler must perform all duties related to the scheduling function at the local level.  Such duties should focus on maximizing system efficiency while also enabling a high standard of on-time performance.

Our Schedulers are responsible for:

  • Manage and adjust daily route schedules to maximize system efficiency
  • Anticipate potential routing trouble and respond accordingly.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of geographic service area.
  • Display proficiency in working with street maps.
  • Project and maintain fair and equal treatment of drivers.
  • Ensure quality customer service by creating executable schedules.
  • Maintain and manage route templates to ensure maximum efficiency on a regular basis.
  • Review past trip performance and driver feedback to ensure scheduling issues are proactively resolved and customer information updated.
  • Adjust route start and end times as necessary to minimize deadhead.
  • Adjust pick times for customers to maximize scheduling efficiency and on-time performance, only if policy permits, and customer is informed.
  • Email Communication with Management and Other Departments-Reservation, Dispatch, Customer Service, Trip Edit, Safety and Maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Metrics to Manage:

  • On-Time Performance – Constant updating of the routes, day’s on-time performance is a key focus.  Constant communication with operators to get feedback, should be maintained to manage routes
  • Trips Per Hour – This metric tracks the efficiency of the operation.  The higher the rate, the more efficient the system is performing, therefore is a good measurement of scheduling quality.  Lower percentages could signify poor scheduling, poor driver performance, or even overstaffing.
  • Deadhead Hours – The time associated between a driver’s clock in and their first pick-up, along with their last drop-off and clock out, are designated non-revenue hours – or deadhead.  Ensuring deadhead hours are at a minimum should be managed through effective scheduling by having first and last pick ups for a driver as close to base as possible, or by adjusting the driver’s clock in or out time as permitted. 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

The Scheduler must be able to perform the following tasks, among others:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing- English language.
  • Work extended hours on a regular basis.
  • Must be willing to work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed.
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Assimilate information quickly and accurately.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work environment mainly in an office environment.

To qualify as a Scheduler, you'll need:

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong Map skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills (i.e., Excel and Word), Company, Contractual, and ADA regulations, knowledge of scheduling software preferred.
  • Strong Attendance record
  • Computer skills
  • General office skills
  • Excellent knowledge of entire service area required.
