Lead Road Supervisor

First Transit is looking for a Road Supervisor in Atlanta, GA. Our road supervisors are an integral part of daily operations. Job Purpose

The Lead Road Supervisor will be responsible for the oversight of the road supervisors and para-transit drivers, inclusive of planning and implementing departmental policies and ensuring maximum reliability and efficiency of run and route coverage. The Lead Road Supervisor will report to the Assistant Safety Manager.

Our Lead Road Supervisors are responsible for:

  • Assigns and communicates job requirements and responsibilities to drivers and Road Supervisors and others as designated.
  • Takes responsibility for day-to-day scheduling, counseling and evaluation reports to local management
  • Conducts on-the-scene accident investigation; assists drivers in preparing accident reports, OSHA reports, and safety violations documents
  • Delivers driver training and safety courses; trains new drivers and retrains those involved in accidents
  • Observes drivers on the road and correct safety problems on the scene while documenting violations
  • Liaisons between drivers and both clients and organizations in customer service issues
  • Evaluates and monitor driver safety and performance, as well as compliance with legal, employment, and labor policy matters
  • Assists Safety Manager with DOT/FTA compliance regarding drug testing and recordkeeping
  • Assists in dispatching, driving, interviewing, and miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed
  • The ability to learn and execute computer skills such as Trapeze program, Outlook, and FGA University and maintain regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrates and promotes a “Safety First” lifestyle at the location
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly updates to Safety/Training Manager.
  • Review events daily; Coach and Counsel Operators for unsafe/risky behaviors.
  • The lead supervisor shall be responsible for working with the Maintenance Manager and technicians with respect to handling breakdowns, and discussing operator concerns regarding the fleet.
  • Visit locations to access and discuss service performance issues and review site conditions for safety hazards.
  • Investigates customer complaints related to operator performance and safety.
  • Ensures and maintains performance measures.
  • Document observed violations of company policy.
  • Can make recommendations to terminate employment based on observed failure to perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance with company policy.
  • May be called upon to testify on behalf of the company at union grievances or safety appeals meetings.
  • Establishes goals and priorities for scheduling projects.
  • Develops methods for completing projects as well as assessing problems and recommending solutions and long-term improvements.
  • Monitors para-transit service delivery levels to ensure efficient use of equipment and personnel.
  • Maintain a constant line of communication and report findings to the Operations and Safety Department Managers regarding accidents, unreported damage, serious events, and policy violations observed.
  • Review general settings of the system and make recommendations to improve operator safety performance.
  • Assists in audits of Safety and Training files by collecting documentation as needed. Follow-up to obtain missing paperwork if applicable.
  • Assist and track Safety Incentive Programs
  • Maintain Company’s Risk Management Program regarding Compliance, including updating Trail Checks, Evaluations
  • Additional duties as assigned

To qualify as a Lead Road Supervisor, you’ll need:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Supervisory experience with hourly employees, with 2-3 years of transit supervisory experience preferred. Meets all driver qualifications at the location.
  • College Degree
  • 3+ years of operations experience in a safety sensitive environment
  • Experience working in a Union environment
  • Trapeze and Ops experience specific to batching, trip routing and driver performance.
  • Supervisory experience in bus operations, with knowledge of operating a computerized para-transit system
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
