About the Automotive Electronics Installer Position 

Join the First Mobile Technologies team as a 12/24-volt Installer Technician. This exciting position will travel up to 20% of the time performing vehicle installations on police cruisers, heavy trucks, and machinery. You will be required to remove and re-install OEM vehicle interior trim, install electrical wiring, connect electrical fittings, drill holes, wire crimping, and perform all physical tasks associated with modifying vehicles to accept emergency-related equipment.  Develop wiring routes throughout the vehicle for the most efficient wiring path and enable future replacement and/or troubleshooting.  Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with equipment as necessary.  Disassemble and reassemble various vehicle makes and models, including sedans, SUVs, and pick-up trucks. The Emergency Vehicle Upfitter will need to exercise teamwork and communicate effectively with co-workers and clients. 

  • Understand installation procedures and wiring diagrams as they apply to mobile computers, mobile radios, mounting components, and peripherals to each project.
  • Installation of required components with a knowledgeable background in 12-volt & 24-volt systems.
  • Perform vehicle upfits and builds on client/fleet vehicles
  • Review and ensure the proper project and materials are being granted to the clients.
  • Maintain daily work schedule as outlined to the clients.
  • Communicate regularly with management on the progress of the project and any problems encountered.
  • Maintain and review all accurate documentation to ensure work is completed as outlined in the scope of the project
  • Remove and reinstall vehicle interiors to ensure all mounting components are properly installed and the vehicle interior is left in its original condition.

Qualifications for Automotive Electronics Installer

  • Technical training preferred
  • 2+ years of automotive electrical installation experience and/or 3+ years of recent experience from an EVT converter/upfitter employer
  • Previous automotive mechanic experience with an electrical background required
  • Thorough understanding of 12 and 24-volt battery systems.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have an appropriate mechanic’s toolset.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
