First Transit is looking for Dispatchers in Olathe, Kansas. Our dispatchers are an integral part of daily operations. Dispatchers assure all routes are filled as assigned and bus operators are provided with timely instructions and responses to requests for operational information throughout the day.  This position also responds to customer and team inquiries. We hire individuals who make safety and customer service their top priorities.  If you have the drive, confidence, and determination to succeed, First Transit is looking for you!

Our Dispatchers are responsible for:

• Responds to customer inquiries and needs in a timely manner. Serves as intake person for customer complaints/commendations and sells bus passes
• Resolves problems by working with carrier dispatchers
• Processes route openings, insertions, extensions and issue resolutions
• Authorizes trips outside of Transit services when necessary
• Schedules alternative rides for passengers
• Uses computer system to retrieve scheduled information.  Uses reference material to quickly and accurately determine the best method to assist client.
• Provides excellent customer service to passengers
• Completes a variety of daily reports and clerical duties
• Provides bus schedule information to phone and walk-in customers
• Answers and directs business calls to appropriate personnel

To qualify as a Dispatcher, you’ll need:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent; Associates or Baccalaureate preferred
• Valid Driver's License Required
• Customer Service and/or Call-Center experience required
• Knowledge of basic and multi-task computer operation in a Windows environment
• Ability to proficiently operate a computer with a speed of no less than 35 keystrokes per minute
• Ability to communicate clearly in the English language
• Ability to utilize a standard business telephone system for communication
• Must satisfactorily complete two-week training program.
• BILINGUAL- Ability to speak Spanish and/or Russian fluently a plus
• Ability to accept job responsibilities and meet deadlines
• Excellent phone demeanor and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to interact with interdepartmental personnel
• Positive attitude and sensitivity in dealing with disabled customers
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, judgment and problem solving abilities
• Ability to perceive, react and communicate positively to needs of colleagues and customers.
• Meets all Qualifications and Job Requirements and understands all Role and Responsibilities
• Professional corporate experience and professional demeanor
• Has customer service experience
• The candidate can be a college student or semi-retiree or retiree
• The candidate must have at least 1-2 years experience in the full-time workforce
