First Transit is seeking experienced Diesel Technicians on 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shifts for the largest university bus fleet in the company. This fleet includes vehicles for the Rutgers University campus shuttle!

As an entry-level Diesel Technician with First Transit, you will set the standard for fleet maintenance capabilities with attention to detail, dependable diagnostics abilities, and superior knowledge of bus fleet repairs. In this role, you will also:

Diesel Mechanic Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe for our customers.
  • Diagnose and accurately perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair, including the repair of brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs.
  • Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain records of all maintenance work completed, including parts and supplies used.
  • Complete preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.

Diesel Mechanic Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
    • Ability to obtain a CDL B - Company training to help you get your CDL will be provided.
  • A minimum of 1 - 5 years of automotive or diesel repair employment experience or a combination of education & experience.
  • Must have appropriate mechanic’s toolset.
  • ASE certifications are preferred. Must participate in company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided!)
