Job Purpose: Teaches classroom instruction for Operator Trainees, coordinates the behind the wheel training, cadetting and final exam of Operator Trainees. Provides retraining and in-service training for current Operators. Conducts monthly Safety meetings.  Assists the Safety Manager, Operations Manager and General Manager as needed. Performs Road Supervisor functions when not teaching classroom or training Operators.

Major Responsibilities:

• Prepares, updates, and delivers classroom and behind-the-wheel training for new trainees, Operators needing to improve, post-incident training, and Operator certification renewals
• Conducts evaluations of trainees, check-rides / road observations, and make recommendations concerning Operator progress and performance
• Documents training performed and maintains accurate training records of trainees, staff and Operators per Company, Local, State and Federal requirements
• Performs Road Supervisor and/or Operator duties as required including but not limited to; Drive Cam review, road observations, accident response, route coverage, and covering dispatch as needed.
• Mentors new Operators and existing employees creating high expectations and modeling positive workplace behavior.
• Complete new hire interviews, track and document new hires, maintain new hire files. Ensure Staff and Client are notified of new hires graduating as Operators.
• Additional duties as assigned

 Experience & Skills Required:

• 1-3 years’ transit or related work experience (driving preferred)
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills; able to effectively communicate with employees of all levels; fluent in English
• Obtains required CDL with Airbrake & Passenger Endorsement
• Must have experience as a Bus Operator and Behind the Wheel training of Operators
• TSI Certification in Instructors Course in Bus Operator Training is plus 
• Familiar with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance
• Able to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time
• Familiar with State, Federal safety and transit regulations / policies
• Work extended hours as needed including weekends and holidays demonstrating consistent attendance and punctuality
• Must have regular access to working vehicle for travel within location service area
